    We are looking for Nut Form Setup Machinists for First shift: 4 or 5 AM - 2:30 pm + overtime

    Responsibilities

    When a product arrives in a production department, the responsibility of the Setup Operator is to determine what operation needs to be performed on the product according to the information on the accompanying work order.


    After he/she finds an available machine, the Setup Operator will set-up the machine with the tools that are necessary to perform the required operation. When the set-up is completed, he/she will either run the machine or will appoint another machine operator to run the machine. This decision is left up to the lead person or the department supervisor.


    In sum, this position will: Set up and operate a variety of machines tools in the Nut Forming department, and machine metal work pieces to produce a variety of threaded fasteners by performing the following duties:

    • Study blueprint or layout on work piece to visualize machining required, and plan sequence of the operations.
    • Select method of holding work piece.
    • Lift work piece manually or using hoist, and position and secure it to holding device such as machine table, chuck, centers, or fixture.
    • Verify work piece position.
    • Select feed rate, cutting speed, depth of cut, and cutting tool (bar tool, rotary cutter, or abrasive wheel) for each operation.
    • Position and secure tool in tool holder (chuck, collet, or tool post).
    • Move controls to position tool and work piece in relation to each other, and to set feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.
    • Start machine, turn hand wheel to feed tool in work piece or vice versa, and engage automatic feeding device.
    • Turn valve handle to start flow of coolant against tool and work piece.
    • Observe operation and regulates tool position and action.
    • Verify conformance of machined work piece to specifications.
    • Measures, marks, and scribes work piece to lay out for machining.
    • Devise ways of clamping work pieces and makes special jigs and fixtures as needed.

     




    Qualifications

    Language Skills

    The candidate shall have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The candidate shall also have the ability to speak, read, and write in English.

     


    Mathematical Skills
    The candidate shall have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

    The candidate shall also have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
