    Summary of the Position: This position deals with the forming and extrusion of metallic products by use of large tonnage single stroke presses. The Maypress set up operator A has a high understanding of material flow in the applications of cold extrusion and hot forming. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  A “Maypress Set up Operator A” is expected to be able to set up and produce parts on all machines and or jobs within his or her department, read and interpret written work and quality instructions and train others to do the same.
    First shift: 4 or 5 AM - 2:30 pm + overtime
    Second shift: 2:30 PM - 11 PM + overtime

    • Sets up and operates variety of Maypress machines from 80ton up to 600ton capacity machines.
    • Operations to perform include but are not limited to: Extrude, Extrude Preform and Final Form, Forming, Hot Forming, Trimming, Blanking etc. by performing the following duties.
    • Follow machine schedule published by the Supervisor/Team Leader or Unit Coordinator, running jobs in order by customer due dates.
    • Studies blueprint or layout on work piece to determine what operation is to be set up and how many machines are required and/or available.
    • Perform the necessary steps to set up the presses as stated in the applicable Quality Instruction (reading and comprehension a must).
    • Verifies conformance of machined work piece to specifications by use of multiple measuring devices including: micrometers, calipers, plug gages, pin gages, comparators, overlays, drop gages, concentricity gages etc.
    • Filling out IPC's, SPC (if required), communication forms, notes on back of work order routers etc. must have legible penmanship.
    • Must possess a professional attitude with visitors, customers and co-workers of all levels.


    • Must have basic mathematical skills, multiplication, division, addition and subtraction. Must be fluent with decimals and fractions.
    • Basic communication skills required in order to maintain safety protocol with operators running presses and/or to conduct shift change communication meetings.
    • Ability to train others to set up machines in his/her department 
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
