    Located in the city of South Bend, this company was founded back in 1934 and focuses on manufacturing high-quality gears. In total, the organization has 4 facilities and serves a myriad of industries, including aerospace, construction, defense, automotive, and medical. With 60-80 machines and 120 employees and a climate controlled 100,000 sqft plant, this operation is searching for responsible and dedicated ID/OD Grinding Technicians.

     

    This will be a first shift position from 6AM - 2:30 PM.

     

    This position will allow you to set up and troubleshoot manual or CNC internal and/or external grinders to grind surfaces of exacting dimensional and finish requirements. You will also edit and develop programs and/or manually program at the machine control to Dress wheels to obtain desired form and finish while meeting quality and productivity standards. And lastly, participate with Engineering Department on launch of new products and major process changes.

    Responsibilities

    Shop floor support

    • Troubleshooting daily with production supervisor, setup people, operators and manufacturing
      engineer to assure machines run smooth with capable processes.
    • Ensures correct fixtures, grinding wheels, quills and gauges are setup correctly and properly
      used.
    • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as feed, speed, coolant flow,
      depth and angle of cut, etc.
    • Works with production supervisor and production manager to assure line items are shipped ontime
      and prioritize late line items.
    • Works with manufacturing engineering on new products to assure process is setup to meet
      throughput and scrap targets then document and provide information used to generate
      accurate setup sheets, tools lists, and process routers.
    • Provide manufacturing engineering with feedback related to current process performance
      related to scrap, throughput, and tool usage used to develop/update setup sheets, tool lists and
      process routers.

    Ensures all parts are to the required specifications by:

    • Maintaining and improving the quality of parts produced.
    • Reading blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine
      dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup
      requirements.
    • Verifying conformance of finished work piece specifications.
    • Starting and observing machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance
      machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
    • Installing tooling into machines and equipment and testing operation of unit to ensure
      functionality and performance.

    Qualifications

    • Requires physical ability and stamina to perform the essential functions of the position, including the
      ability to walk, stand, lift, carry up to 50 pounds, push, kneel, bend, stoop, reach over and under
      waist level, twist for extended periods of time on cement or other hard surfaces, etc.
    • Experience setting up and operating OD and or ID CNC grinders 
    • Two-year certification from technical school or two plus years of experience in ID/OD grinding or
      related field.
    • Must be able to communicate in English
    • Ability to use a computer
