This company, located in Long Beach CA, delivers unique aerospace products to top institutions such as Blue Origin, NASA, Virgin Galactic, and more! With a very strong backlog of contracts, they foresee continued and steady work (including OT) for the long term. Founded over a century ago, they have designed and manufactured a variety of products through every decade, adapting to industry needs. They are currently producing large CNC machined parts for satellites, launch vehicle and missile defense applications. They have 15 CNC machines and 50 employees. 

 

In this role, they are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer who can demonstrate the responsibilities of a CNC programmer (using any variety of CAD/CAM system such as Mastercam, Esprit, NX, etc.), while focusing on driving process improvements, improving cycle times, conducting time studies, and collaborating with organizational leaders to ensure a smooth and efficient production environment. 

 

They are also looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who have a focus on New Product Introduction. This would be a more traditional ME role, working with design engineering to develop tooling and planning for new products, and works with the shop floor to support first article builds, issues, etc.

Responsibilities

  • ME Programmer: Utilize Mastercam to design and program for a variety of CNC mills and lathes, proof programs by remaining hands on with CNC machines
  • ME NPI: Assist with New Product Introductions (NPI's) from cradle to grave, planning, supporting first article builds and issues
  • Improve manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency
  • Drive process improvements by doing time studies, implementing cycle time reductions, etc.
  • Determine optimal tooling and gauging requirements
  • Design and determine fixturing and custom tooling
  • Prepare detailed work instructions related to process such as set up, tooling, and inspections
  • Collaborate with programmers, operators, and machinists to ensure quality and satisfaction of requirements

Qualifications

  • ME Programmer: 7+ years of hands on programming experience for CNC machines using a CAD/CAM system (Mastercam, NX, Esprit)
  • ME NPI: Experience with taking new product introductions cradle to grave
  • 7 + years of experience within the aerospace industry at the engineering level
  • 4-year degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
  • Working knowledge of machining, TIG/EB welding and heat treating processes of metallic parts.  Preferably Titanium, Aluminum, Copper and Steel
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems with specifics to software type and usage.
  • Experience with creating manufacturing work instructions for shop floor through MRP/ERP and MS office software
  • Good understanding of engineering build structures and ability to create Manufacturing BOMs
  • Strong experience with manufacturing standards and assembly processes
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
  • Ability to demonstrate capability of the stated responsibilities
